This past weekend, I was talking with a friend about my website, how to build a backyard chicken coop, and he asked if I had built a chicken coop yet. My answer was “in the planning process.”
I have purchased a set of downloadable plans on how to build a backyard chicken coop and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it will be to build a chicken coop. I am by no means a carpenter or for that matter have built any wooden projects without assistance. However, with these plans I can see that following the steps will enable me to build my first chicken coop.
So my friend then asked, “why are you passionate about building a backyard chicken coop?” At first, I thought about the prospect of having chickens as pets, but that’s not my real passion. Instead, my passion is in sustainable agriculture.
With building a chicken coop and having hens in our backyards, we are now taking control of what we consume and put into our bodies. There are so many unhealthy practices when producing foods for humans to eat, that having your own chicken coop and hens allows a person to enjoy the benefits of sustainable agriculture.
Research your local city by-laws/regulations to find out if you can build a backyard chicken coop and house a few hens. The benefits to you and your family’s health are insurmountable.
