If you have space in your city backyard, and city regulations allow, build your chicken coop a little larger than your original plan. This will allow extra space for your chickens and if you decide to expand your chicken family you will have the space.
Keep in mind when choosing lumber, sometimes one piece of lumber can be cut to create two pieces that will fit the measurements in your plan. They can be cut into equal lengths or be cut into different lengths to fit specific requirements. Also, if there are small cracks in the wood, no need to worry as they are dry and will not split like new wood. Don’t forget to check out your recycled or used stores for wood, as this will ease up your budget.
When you have all your materials ready, you will find out that building a backyard chicken coop in your city backyard, can be fun and will be a great bargain especially when your hens start laying their eggs.
